The event was held under the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Donetsk People's Republic, Federal Research Center The Southern Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and others.
The Director of RANIMI, FSBSI V.A. Driban delivered a welcoming speech, while noting the need to identify new strategic lines in developing methods for predicting potentially hazardous phenomena at undermined territories and measures on their prevention. Academician N.Y. Azarov, Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, also delivered a welcoming speech.
In the course of the meeting, ideas and opinions on the issues of ensuring environmental safety of mining regions, concentrating scientific efforts in discussions on the negative impact of repeated undermining of urban and rural areas with underground mine workings; sinkhole formation at undermined territories; mine gases entering the soil surface, buildings and structures; pollution of the atmosphere, soil, and surface water; reducing the environmental impact of rock spoil heaps; and the need to transfer the accumulated experience and knowledge of modern science to young scientists conducting research in the sphere of mining were discussed.
