Donbas is the land of miner’s glory, still this poses specific challenges in construction. Underground there are mine working, and aboveground the so-called "undermined areas" are located. Here the soil might be prone to subsidence, thus bridge and road structures are subject to specific seismic resistance and strength requirements.
Head of SSD&USPD, Doctor of Engineering Science, Professor Nickolay Nickolaevich Grishchenkov reported on how to design and build transport arteries under such conditions.
A report was presented on the topic "Constructing Roads at Undermined Areas."
Geomechanics in action was discussed: how road surfaces and foundations act at the areas having underground cavitation. Particular attention was paid to protecting structures: to engineering solutions on ensuring bridges and overpasses to remain reliable despite ground movement, and also to calculations that help preventing cracks and roadway platform failure under the specific conditions of the region.
