Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution
"Republican Academic Scientific, Research and Design Institute for Mining Geology, Geomechanics, Geophysics and Mine Surveying"
(RANIMI, FSBSI)

BASIC SPHERES OF ACTIVITY

  • Research into the generation and evolution of the stress&strain and gas-dynamic state of the rock mass to assure the efficient and safe development of mineral deposits;
  • Research into the rock mass and soil surface deformations, impact of the mining operations on the underground&surface structures and planning measures for their protection;
  • research into the lithosphere structure and geodynamics by geological and geophysical methods for the purposes of prospecting for mineral deposits, predicting the mining&geological conditions of their development and ecological changes in the environment;
  • provision for the stability of the entire structure of mine workings;
  • prediction and prevention of rock outbursts and gas-dynamic phenomena;
  • protecting buildings and structures at the undermined territories;
  • hydrogeomechanical surveys of the rock mass;
  • prediction of the mining&geological conditions for coal deposits development;
  • provision for the environmental safety of the mining regions;
  • engineering, geological and geophysical surveys in the course of planning and constructing economic, industrial and accommodation facilities;

SCIENTIFIC POTENTIAL

The Institute has 1 Academician, 1 Corresponding Member, 10 Doctors of Science and more than 20 Candidates of Science among its employees; 7 employees of the Institute are the recipients of the State Science and Technology Prizes, and 7 persons have been granted with personalized academic and governmental awards.

The results of the Institute's research works are embodied in 20 monographs and in more than 6,000 recommendations and expert findings that regulate coal mining practice and that have allowed putting more than 300 million tons of coal reserves back into development.

More than 150 regulatory documents on the matters of the optimal and safe mining operations, and on providing industrial and environmental safety have been developed.

The Institute is the holder of more than 400 patents for inventions and useful models.

RANIMI, FSBSI is a multi-discipline scientific institution with established schools in the spheres of fundamental disciplines and innovative technologies. The Institute has developed two scientific schools: Geomechanics and Mining Geophysics; it has an operating Dissertation Committee and a Postgraduate School in the Program of Study 25.00.20 Geomechanics, Rock Destruction, Mining Aerogasdynamics and Mining Thermophysics and 25.00.22 Geotechnology (subsoil, opencast and construction one); the Institute publishes a specialized Collection of Scientific Papers "Transactions of RANIMI".
