RANIMI is carrying out an active and fruitful work in the sphere of intellectual property rights protection. Technical solutions, the Documents of Title were issued for, had been created by the Institute's research staff in the result of research work on fundamental and applied topics under the active methodological assistance of the patent service employees. A vast number of patents are used by the Institute in its own developments and facilitate in solving issues within the spheres of the Institute’s activity.
Since 1975, the Institute has obtained more than 200 Author's Certificates for inventions. From 1991 till 2014, when the Institute was under the jurisdiction of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, 29 patents for inventions and 124 patents for utility models had been obtained. For 10 years in a row starting from 2004 and up till 2013 inclusive, the Institute was the winner of the NAS of Ukraine Competition (with the award of the first prize places) for achieving the best indices in inventive work, creation, protection and usage of intellectual property rights. Five employees have been awarded the honorary title of the Inventor of the Year.
In 2014, patenting activity was temporarily suspended due to the military actions in the Donbas region and its gaining independence from Ukraine with subsequent consolidation into the Donetsk People's Republic. However, starting from 2023, after the DPR becoming part of the Russian Federation and RANIMI, FSBSI getting transferred into the federal property, after its subordination to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the works on protecting intellectual property rights for technical solutions developed at the Institute resumed. 7 Patents of the Russian Federation for Utility Models, 5 Inventor’s Certificates for Programs for Electronic Computing Machines, 1 Patent for an Invention, and 1 Patent for an Industrial Design have been obtained.
