Statistical Method for Determining the Efficiency of the Protective Effect of a Look-Ahead Overmining the Outburst-Prone Seams

   Authors: V.P. Evdokimova, V.P. Koptikov, I.A. Yuzhanin

The statistical methods for assessing the protective effect of a look-ahead overmining the outburst-prone seams are considered in the monograph based on the representation of the physical system "protective seam - interseam - overmined seam" while taking into account the characteristics and properties of its elements. The dependence of relative deformation on the parameters of the overmined seam, both homogeneous and layered one, has been established. A statistical model for assessing the protective effect of a look-ahead overmining the outburst-prone seams has been obtained. A classifier has been elaborated to allow referring an overmined seam according to its protection degree to one of the three spheres of protective effect: the protection is efficient, inefficient or absent. Methodological recommendations for determining the efficiency of the protective effect of a look-ahead overmining the outburst-prone seams have been elaborated.

   Authors: S.S. Grebenkin, D.M. Zhitlenok, S.D. Kerkez, M.S. Zhitlenok, V.I. Bondarenko, V.I. Kucher, Y.A. Piven, E.V. Borisenko, V.M. Terosipov, E.I. Pitalenko

In the monograph the information related to specific issues of preventing the harmful manifestations of gas-dynamic phenomena in coal seams by increasing the efficiency of their protection in particular in case of shield mining is given. Engineering techniques and methods for increasing the efficiency of using protective seams by artificial drainage of gases out of approximated boreholes are presented. It is suggested to increase the shield mining efficiency by moistening the coal-bearing mass with aqueous solutions of surfactants.

Solving Geoecological and Social Issues in the Course of Coal Mines Operation and Closure

   Authors: V.F. Yanukovych, N.Y. Azarov, A.D. Alekseev, A.V. Antsiferov, E.I. Pitalenko

The results of multiyear studies into geoecological and geomechanical processes during underground mining of coal seams in the Donbas are given in the monograph. In the science first, the data on the mechanism of processes associated with mines closure are presented. The studies performed made it possible to develop methods for predicting hazardous phenomena that can occur in the course of flooding the mined-out space in mines in case of their closure by wet closure approach. Much attention is paid to solving social issues that arise during the closure of mines in the Donbas. The monograph is intended for a wide range of scientists and engineers employed in the coal industry, and can also be useful for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Technological Aspects of Extracting Outburst-Prone Steep-Dipping Coal Seams

   Authors: N.A. Shapoval, N.A. Alyshev, D.M. Zhitlenok, Y.A. Piven, B.I. Kuritsyn, E.I. Pitalenko, A.V. Aksenov, E.V. Borisenko

The data on gas-dynamic phenomena that occurred during the 15-year period in the course of developing outburst-prone seams in the Central Region of Donbas are presented in the book along with their division by gas-dynamic activity: the results of research into the patterns of rock pressure manifestations and into the influence of technological processes on the outburst hazard, that are related to the aspects of the wall rocks displacement in the plane of the seam and of the bottomhole section of the coal mass, their stress&strain state, gas dynamics, etc. are presented. The work does not claim to be an exhaustive remedy to the entire range of issues related to reducing the outburst hazard of steep-dipping and steep seams due to the correct choice and usage of coal mining tools&methods, rock pressure management and choice of support, the parameters of such in working faces. Based on the consideration of mining-geological and geomechanical factors only several aspects of a very complicated issue are enlightened in the book, based on the results of laboratory&in-mine studies and experience in extracting outburst-prone seams.
