Evgeniy Nikolaevich Shevchenko is a leading specialist in the sphere of mine surveying and hydrogeomechanical research, inter alia in the issues of the consequences of flooding a colliery. The main area of his scientific activity is research into the rock mass and the soil surface displacement in the course of flooding a colliery.

Main spheres of activity

Hydrogeomechanical Research and Mineral Wealth Protection Department carries out scientific and research activities and elaborates research and development works in the sphere of fundamental and applied sciences. The basic spheres of activity of the department are:

  • analysis and research into the consequences of flooding a mine roadway; initiation and carrying out the hydrogeomechanical monitoring of geological environment; elaboration of hydrogeomechanical predictions with the safe flooding level estimated and the relevant recommendations at a mining enterprise liquidation by way of wet closure approach given;
  • substantiation of the parameters of water stability and filtration through the fluid conducting rock of barrier pillars, determination of the boundaries of  the zones posing hazards of fluid breaking through into the operating longwalls and under the conditions of flooding the mined-out space;
  • elaboration of the projects of the hazardous areas boundaries and of conclusions on conducting operations at such areas;
  • calculation of the soil surface displacement and deformation caused by the displacement process activation in the course of flooding the roadways of a mine under liquidation by way of wet closure approach;
  • prediction of mines liquidation impact on the rock mass displacement and of the consequences of such processes’ impact on the soil surface;
  • research and elaboration of conclusions on the issues of constructing facilities under the challenging mining and geological conditions;
  • development of normative documents on performing mine surveying, geodetic and hydrogeological operations;
  • performance of geodetic and mine surveying operations with the use of modern equipment;
  • elaboration of expert findings on the issues related to the scientific and technical spheres of the department's activities;
  • patenting and inventive activity.

Scientific&research and practical activity

The results of the scientific&research and practical activity of the department are widely used by mining, construction and other interested enterprises from the DPR, LPR and the Russian Federation.

The department has elaborated:

  • 57 flooding projects;
  • 9 hydrogeomechanical predictions;
  • 8 safe flooding level estimations;
  • about 120 conclusions and recommendations;
  • 9 comprehensive works on hydrogeomechanical monitoring at the mines in the Central Region of Donbas, the Soviet District of Makeyevka, the Torez-Snezhnoye and Kirovsk-Shakhtyorsk Region, and as well at a section of the M.Gorky mine;
  • 2 normative documents have been developed.
